With the passage of time, along with the usual background noise, at times a clear sense of a special orderliness of things - a harmony - is heard. This sense can be easily dispelled, yet there are a few special moments, when through the humming it is possible to hear clearly the keynote. These moments allow to touch the greatness of nature and open the door to admiration, even veneration.
In these moments, perception sharpens, sadness is born and a distinct necessity to immortalise at least a small part of this moment. Along with the sadness, a fear also is born, that something significant, not captured in time will vanish.
A collection from small pieces of a mosaic - images, fragments, brush strokes, sentences, that need to be ordered. Working as a recorder, the observer-documentalist feels displeasure towards the irreversibly departing, negligence, inattentivness.
Laimdota Malle is a Latvian visual artist whose multidisciplinary practice spans sculpture, imagery, printmaking, and spatial installation. Working through a materially diverse and conceptually layered approach, she creates immersive environments that reflect on the complexity of human experience. At the core of her work lies a deep interest in the fragile and shifting boundaries between subjective experience and collective consciousness, between inner landscapes and external reality. Her installations act as poetic explorations of perception, identity, and the psychological resonance of space.
Drawing on both personal and inherited experiences Malle constructs metaphorical narratives that emerge through fragmented forms, tactile surfaces, and ephemeral materials such as beeswax and ceramic plaster. These elements come together to form delicate sculptural constellations that appear to hover between presence and disappearance, capturing a sense of something partially remembered or already vanishing. Her use of layering, repetition, and spatial rhythm creates tension between intimacy and distance, evoking the liminal zones where sensation, and imagination intersect. Her installations suggest a process of collecting and archiving impressions from the world, echoing both scientific precision and dreamlike intuition.
Malle holds a master's degree in Fine Art from Manchester Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom and a master's degree in Visual Arts from the Art Academy of Latvia. Her most significant exhibitions include the exhibition Horrify me, soothe me, horrify me after after six-month residency at the RSU Anatomy Museum in Riga, which was nominated for the Kilograms Kultūras 2025 award, installation Like a jellyfish in the sun together with artist Aleksejs Beļeckis ad Savvaļa, the installation How to move the giant at the NOASS art centre created in collaboration with musicians Freddie Murphy and Chiara Lee from the Italian avant-garde collective Father Murphy, the solo exhibition OOZE at Pragovka Gallery in Prague and Vagonu Hall in Riga which was nominated for the Purvītis Prize 2023 and Kilograms Kultūras 2022, as well as the print series SEDIMENTS (part I–III) presented in the exhibition SAVVAĻA from 2020 till 2025 in Drusti, Latvia.
